Jhamgat

Privacy policy

What Jhamgat collects, who can see it, and how to delete it.

Effective 18 October 2026

In short

What we collect

Your account

Your mobile number (used to sign in with a one-time code), the name you choose and, if you add one, a profile photo.

What you add to groups

My Money (only if you turn it on)

If you turn on My Money, we store the accounts you add (a name like "Nabil Bank", its type and the balance you enter), the money records you add (amount, account, category, time, and an optional payee and note), private loans you record (a label you choose and the amounts), your balance checks, and which of your group bills or payments you connected to your own accounts. You type all of this in yourself: we never ask for bank or wallet logins and never connect to your bank.

Your contacts (only if you allow it)

When you start a new chat or group, and only if you allow contact access, the app reads the phone numbers in your address book and sends them to our server to check which ones belong to Jhamgat accounts, so you can chat with them or invite them. The numbers are compared and then discarded: we don't store your address book, contact names, or numbers that aren't on Jhamgat. You can turn contact access off in your phone's settings at any time.

Voice calls and your microphone

When you call someone or answer a call, the app uses your microphone (only if you allow it). The call's audio goes directly between the two phones, or through our call relay server when a direct connection isn't possible, and is encrypted on the way. We never record or store call audio. We keep a short call log (who called whom, when, and how long) so the chat can show "Voice call · 3:12" or "Missed voice call".

Community

Posts, photos, comments and supports you share in Community, and who can see them (everyone, or one of your groups).

Support and safety

Messages you send to support, reports about posts or people, and people you block.

Technical data

Your sign-in sessions (device type and when they were last used), your notification settings, and standard server logs (such as IP address and time of a request), which we use to keep the service secure and working.

We don't access your location or bank accounts.

How we use it

Who can see what

How long we keep it

We keep your data while you have an account. Backups are kept for 14 days and then deleted.

When you delete your account, we remove your name, mobile number, profile photo, payment details, everything in My Money and every sign-in straight away. Bills, repayments and messages you were part of stay in your friends' records, shown as "Deleted user", so their balances and conversations still make sense. Your data drops out of backups within 14 days.

Your choices

Security, children and changes

Sign-in sessions use random tokens that are stored hashed. Access to our admin tools is limited, and every action there is logged. No service is perfectly secure, so please keep your phone locked.

Jhamgat is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and tell you in the app when the change matters.
